Happy Holidays!

It’s been a busy few weeks and I wanted to take the time to share our holiday card and wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!  Special Thanks to Lisette Price for the images she took of my family!   I hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday.

Giving Back…

This year, like many in the past,  our US soldiers spend the holidays in the battlefields without loved ones, and some without so much as a card or letter. In 2004 Any Solider Inc. was formed to  for those who wanted to help to be able to pick a soldier and send a care package.

If you want to put a smile on the face of one of our US Soldiers, Go here… http://anysoldier.com/ , Pick a soldier and send a care package to brighten his or her holidays.

The above image was taken by Jamie Burnett at the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial Wall in January of 2008.

Happy Halloween!!

This was the first year both of my boys wanted to be something scary or cool.  In the all the years before at least one of them was something fuzzy or had a tail… But alas they are growing up!   The days of freckles made with eyeliner have now been replaced with fake blood and plastic masks.  :(   But I can at least enjoy the loot they bring home! :)

Have a safe and Happy Halloween!

Here’s a point and shoot of the boys and their candy candy haul!

The beach, the boys and the boats!

A nice thing about living in Auburn, Alabama is that the beach is only a three hour drive away.  We took full advantage of the sunny forecast and headed to Panama City Beach in Florida.  Luckily we have family that is also within driving distance so we all spent the day hanging out on the beach.  I left my camera behind since I know what the sand does to my cel phone, but my brother in law braved the sand and salt water and let me play with his Nikon.  I should also mention he brought along his cornhole game that I have only played twice but managed to get 2, yes count em’, 2 bags in the hole!!!!  That’s a first for me, and yes, I’m not normally picked  to be on anyone’s team!  ;)

We were also there for the offshore boat race, which is mind blowing to see these boats race.  What’s almost as impressive is how they sound.

Here’s the boys hanging out at the beach…

Don’t ask about the neon orange hat… Daddy though it was a great idea so we could spot him easily…LOL!  This image could easily be confused for a baywatch rescue scene.

Some friendly cornhole competition…

Score is 5 to 3 in the first round…

I think the sunset wins… Sorry guys!  Even though it was a Nikon, I think Mike’s camera did good… I may have to consider a new brand!  :)

What $25 does for a child with Cancer?

I have been reading weekly updates from a friend back in Arizona that has a 4 year old daughter that has been diagnosed with cancer.  Today her update was about a stuffed duck (Gabe’s my heart) that her daughter received with her chemo treatments.  Curious, I went to the website and found that these ducks are given to these children through donations.  The ducks have chest ports just like many of the tiny patients that receive them. They even come with some supplies like bandages and gauze, so these tiny little patients can take care of their duck, just like they are.

Maybe this feels so important to me because almost 9 years ago, my tiny one year old son went into surgery at Riley Children’s hospital in Indianapolis, IN to remove a growth in his neck.  When he came out they had given him a stuffed dog face made by elderly volunteers.  I wish I could tell them how much he liked that silly stuffed dog face made with printed circus fabric and magic marker eyes, because we still have it almost 9 years later. It went from a symbol of comfort for a child to a symbol of survival and a reminder of where we were and how far we have come.

If you would like to supply a duck to a child with cancer, It’s only  $25.

I did, and I hope it gives a smile to whichever child receives it.

The drive through safari…

I don’t know if you have ever been to a drive through safari in Georgia, but I should have googled it before we gave it a try.  First off was the fabulous zebra spray painted mini van which should have been my first clue. :)  What I failed to realize was that the animals actually stick their heads into the vehicle… and if their head won’t fit they shove their tongue through for these nugget shaped animal treats you get at the beginning of the safari.    I wrongfully assumed that once you gave them a treat that they would be on their way to the next car, but nope… Once you give them the treat all of their friends come running.

Here’s a short point and shoot video of our first and probably last drive through safari… I can’t help but laugh at my little guy at the end, he looks as desperate as I sound!

And here’s the aftermath on the window!  Yummy!

I love surprises…

I LOVE surprises, but I hate suspense.  Presents under the tree drive me bananas, but a random card or gift in mail makes my day.  Today is our anniversary, and my husband likes to wait until the last minute, because he knows I look in every nook and cranny in the hopes of finding a stashed gift.  So when there was a knock at the door and a delivery man with flowers and a box of chocolates, it TOTALLY made my day.

Thanks babe. Happy Anniversary… You’re the best!

Do you facebook?

Add me….  http://www.facebook.com/people/Jamie_Burnett/741800802

I just figured out how to add pictures and updates from my cel phone!  It’s not rocket science, but very fun!  I just added some storm pictures from tropical storm Fay!

We made it!

I’ve been surrounded by boxes since Monday morning but for those who have sent me messages asking if we ever arrived… YES!  We’re here!  I’ve been diligently unpacking for what seems like forever and still can’t seem to find the exact things I have been looking for… Oh silverware… Where are you?????

And just for fun, here’s a random roadside photo, which oddly enough came to mind as I’m unpacking all our junk. :)  Happy Thursday!

Here we go….

The day has come… The moving truck arrived…

This was formally our kitchen…

Now I’m off to bed.  It’s been a LONG day!  Auburn, Alabama here we come!
